Legal Aid grant to help low-income tenants
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is giving Atlanta Legal Aid $360,000 to help housing-aid recipients in danger of losing their homes.
HUD's Tenant Resource Network helps families who find their landlord is opting out of the Section 8 housing assistance program or fails to met HUD standards.
Atlanta Legal Aid will use the grant to establish a network of advocates to assist Section 8 tenants. Christopher Quinn
Tax allocation districts to be discussed
Two committees of Atlanta's City Council will hold a joint work session on tax allocation districts at 3 p.m. July 9 in Committee Room 2 in City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave. Tax allocation districts, or TADs, are a widely used economic development tool. But a recent audit indicated they have vastly uneven results in Atlanta and require more oversight. The Community Development/Human Resources and Finance/Executive committees are scheduled to discuss TADs in the public meeting. Jeremiah McWilliams

Public meeting set to discuss Fairview trail
Henry County officials have scheduled a public information meeting for 6:30 p.m. July 19 at the Fairview Recreation Center to discuss the one-mile PATH Foundation multiuse trail set for construction in the Fairview area. The trail will connect Austin Road Middle School to Panola Mountain State Park and tie into a network of about 20 miles of trails known as the Arabia Mountain Heritage Trails. Henry County was awarded $700,000 in Transportation Enhancement Funding from the Georgia Department of Transportation in November 2011 for construction of the trail. This will cover most of the $875,000 cost of the project.
