Schools discuss cell phone tower proposals
DeKalb County Schools will hold community meetings to discuss a proposal to install cell phone towers at various school in the county. The presentation will be made by representatives of T-Mobile. The district is considering the towers, which are located at school sites in other counties, as a way to bring in additional revenue. The meetings will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Brockett Elementary, Flat Rock Elementary and Jolly Elementary.

Curriculum committee applications available
Gwinnett County Schools is accepting applications to serve on the district’s annual curriculum review committee.
The group, the GEMS Oversight Committee, is a board of community and district representatives who meet to discuss improvements to the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. Suggested revisions are shared with the Gwinnett superintendent for possible adoption by the school board.
Members serve three-year terms.
Applications can be found at www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us. Submission deadline is June 1.

Anti-bullying campaign on tour
The Fulton County Youth Commissioners, teens selected to address community issues, are touring Atlanta and Fulton middle and high schools in a campaign to curb bullying. They will be at Sandy Springs Middle School Thursday, Banneker High School in College Park Friday, and at Coan Middle School in Atlanta on May 10. Presentations are at 4:30 p.m.

Local educators run for a cure
Four Sophia Academy teachers, inspired by their school founder’s battle with lymphoma, helped to raise over $10,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The Atlanta educators are running marathons to raise money for cancer research. The group, Team Sophia, was coached by society partner Team in Training.
Teachers Tyler Lang and Caroline Bligh will compete in the St. Anthony’s Triathlon in Florida Sunday. Two other teachers, Meredith Mouledous, who organized the running group, and Sue Peterson, ran in the Publix marathon in last month.

Peachtree City survey posted online
The results of the 2011 Resident Survey in Peachtree City have been posted online.
The city received 1,936 responses representing 14 percent of local households. The comments reflect the opinions of mostly older city residents: 54 percent of those who weighed in were over 55, and nearly 63 percent had no children living at home.
