An Atlanta woman is back in jail for allegedly cashing at least $40,000 worth of counterfeit checks at Kroger stores in the metro area, according to police.
But that's not the crazy part.
In her latest alleged heists, police say, Sabrina Yvette Cantrell left behind a clear trail: She used her Kroger Plus Card to get discounts and gain credits for her purchases.
Cantrell, 41, was being held without bond Tuesday in the Cobb County jail, where she's been for more than a month, according to booking records. Cantrell arrived at the Cobb County jail by way of the Fulton County jail, where she was being held after allegedly violating her probation.
According to her arrest warrant in Cobb County, obtained by the AJC, Cantrell allegedly forged and presented counterfeit checks at numerous Kroger stores at least 46 times, obtaining groceries and cash totaling at least $40,280.76, beginning in February 2011.
In Cobb County alone, Cantrell faces more than two dozen charges, including racketeering, forgery, theft by taking and identity fraud.
Cantrell is accused of similar crimes in Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Fannin counties, as well as McDonough, according to police. In May 2011, Cantrell allegedly cashed 18 fraudulent checks, totaling $1,759, throughout Gwinnett County, according to an incident report obtained by the AJC.
In the 1990s, Cantrell served three separate sentences in state prison following various forgery convictions, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. Cantrell also spent time in Tennessee state prison, where she was released in January 2001, according to that state's department of corrections.
No information was available regarding the amount of gas discounts Cantrell was able to obtain.
