The driver who hit a DeKalb County school bus Tuesday in a crash that sent more than a dozen kids to the hospital appeared delusional afterward, a police report released Wednesday suggests.

“He stated that he thought he was at work and did not know that he had been involved in an accident,” the report said.

The driver was injured, reportedly critically, and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Police believe the driver was going at least 71 miles per hour, based on preliminary investigation.

The crash happened at about 2:33 p.m. at Pleasantdale Road and Lynnray Drive. The car hit the bus, which was carrying approximately 60 students, as it was making a left turn onto Pleasantdale.

The driver was found at fault, the report said, but there was no immediate word on possible charges.

The children were from Pleasantdale Elementary.
