Cops: Snellville man's online relationship with teen ends with Florida arrest
A relationship that started online resulted in a Snellville man's arrest when he went to the 15-year-old girl's Florida school.
Sky Michael Smith, 23, remains in a Tampa jail without bond for allegedly having sex with the girl, according to Hillsborough County police.
Smith faces two counts of lewd and lascivious battery, a Florida statute that involves having sex with someone under the age of 16, as well as other charges, said Debbie Carter, spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The teen apparently met Smith online in January and then gave the man her phone number, Carter said. Then, the girl gave Smith her address, and on March 12, he made arrangements to travel to Tampa, she said.
"She knew he was arriving, so she left the garage door open," Carter said.
Smith apparently entered the home while no one was there, and that evening, he and teen hung out in downtown Tampa, Carter said.
When the girl didn't return home, her mother went and found her and brought her home, police said. Smith arrived at the home later on, and the girl let him come into her room, Carter said.
"Mom finds him in the bedroom and makes him leave," Carter said. “He leaves and comes back the same night, and the girl lets him back in the bedroom window."
Smith apparently spent the night in the girl's room, and the mother found him in her home the next day, Carter said.
"She makes him leave again and calls the sheriff's office, but he’s already gone," Carter said.
But Smith apparently did not return to Georgia. Last Friday, he showed up at the girl's school, where he was arrested, police said.
