Atlanta police on Thursday released surveillance photos of two men suspected of robbing two people, including a Georgia Tech student, inside a parking deck at 1000 Northside Drive.

The victims were robbed at gunpoint Jan. 3 in the deck of the same off-campus apartment complex where another student was shot during an armed robbery 2 1/2 years ago. That attack started a string of robberies and attacks against students on or near Tech's Midtown campus.

In the Jan. 3 robbery, Jeffrey Portman and Virginia Beasley told police they had just arrived at the deck of the Tenside Apartments at 1000 Northside Drive at Tenth Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when they were robbed. Portman is the the grandson of famed Atlanta architect John Portman.

As they drove up the parking deck past the third floor, a car pulled out behind them and followed them to where they parked, Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee told the AJC.

“When the victims exited their vehicle, a black male wearing a mask approached them and pointed a gun at them,” Chafee said. “The suspect demanded their belongings, and the victims gave them their suitcases, purse, wallet and phones.”

Within hours of the robbery, two suspects were caught on camera as they attempted to use one of the victim’s credit cards at Yaril’s Grocery at 500 James P Brawley Drive.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call police at 404-658-6636 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
