A Gwinnett man faces drug charges for distributing crack cocaine from a bridal shop in Athens, police say.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports Dimitri Darnell Whitehead had an office at Formally Yours, and "was distributing to dealers in the Northeast Georgia area," said police.
Gwinnett police found evidence of drug trafficking at Whitehead's Dacula home Nov. 17 and a search warrant was executed at the Athens bridal shop the same day.
A Gwinnett police dog that took part in the search alerted officers to the presence of drugs, police said in the Banner-Herald. Inside, police found an ounce of crack.
During a search of Whitehead's Dacula home, police found “a substantial quantity of marijuana and several wrappers associated with the packaging of kilograms of cocaine,” along with digital scales covered with cocaine residue.
Whitehead, released from the Gwinnett County jail Nov. 30 on a $16,700 bond, faces charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, according to jail records. Charges for the drugs found in Athens have not been made.
The Athens Banner-Herald says Whitehead is partial owner of the bridal shop near Alps Road and the Dogg Pound hotdog grill on West Broad Street.
