A Dalton man allegedly shot to death his father and brother and injured his mother during a domestic dispute Sunday morning, according to police.
Emilio Christopher Canales, 27, was arrested in Whitfield County and faces charges in the incident that happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Dude Street. Police said a neighbor called 911 after hearing gun shots coming from the house.
The mother, Deborah J. Canales, 50, ran from the house on Dude Street to a neighbor who cared for her until emergency medical personnel arrived, police said. She told police that her son, Emilio Christopher Canales had shot her and fled the scene. She was taken to Hamilton Medical Center where she underwent surgery on Sunday.
Officers found the father, Emilio Canales, Sr., 50, and the son, Emilio Francisco Canales, 31, dead from gunshot wounds in the home.
A Whitfield County Sheriff’s Deputy located Canales and took him into custody Sunday afternoon. Canales is in the Whitfield County jail in Dalton and will be charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault, according to Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier. He said he did not know what sparked the shooting. "It was a domestic dispute of some sort," he said.
