Authorities found a burglary suspect hiding in a trash truck near the jail he was supposed to report to Sunday morning.

DeKalb County jail officials said the young man is back in custody, after being treated for a bite he suffered from a K-9 dog that traced the suspect’s scent to the trash truck, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Earlier, DeKalb police had looked for the unnamed suspect, who is charged with a burglary at Towers High School. DeKalb police Lt. Lewis Richardson said a school resource officer was enroute to the jail with the suspect, who somehow got away.

“It is unknown how the situation escalated to the suspect fleeing the officer,” Richardson told Channel 2.

Officers circled the area, looking for the suspect.  “He was hiding in a trash truck over there,” Richardson told Channel 2.
