A body found Friday night on the shore of Lake Lanier was identified Saturday as that of a missing 16-year-old Gainesville High School student, authorities said.
Authorities said the death of Hannah Truelove is under investigation. They have ruled out drowning.
"It's still being treated as a suspicious death," said Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks of the Hall County Sheriff's Office said Saturday. He said authorities were interviewing family and canvasing the neighborhood to question others.
According to Channel 2 Action News, the teen's recent tweets on Twitter.com complained about living at the Lake Lanier Club Apartments and about a stalker. In one tweet posted Aug. 18 she said, "So scared right now."
Wilbanks said investigators were looking into the tweets. "Right now there hasn't been a lot more than what was initially posted," he said.
Truelove was reported missing Thursday morning around 7 a.m., authorities said. Wilbanks said the teen was found in a wooded area behind the complex, where she lived with her mother. A resident of the apartment complex found her body.
"It was found along the shoreline, so we are treating it as suspicious until we obtain further information," Gainesville police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Hall County Sheriff's Office were leading the investigation.
During the search, the 5-foot-5, 120-pound teen was described as being "at risk," although authorities would not elaborate on why that description was given.
