Commissioners nix gas rezoning try
The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners Tuesday night denied a controversial gas station zoning request.
Cowford Holdings LLC had sought to rezoning roughly 3.5 acres from Neighborhood Commercial to General Commercial, paving the way for a convenience store with gas sales. The rezoning request for the plot along Cumming Highway drew heavy opposition from residents of a nearby subdivision, who packed both the Tuesday meeting and an earlier planning commission session to show their displeasure.
Also Tuesday night, commissioners approved spending $58, 822 with Telenet Systems and Alarm Systems to upgrade the video surveillance system for the county justice center, and signed off on a $794,675 budget amendment to allow for the purchase of five ambulances.
