You may want to help Cobb County’s firefighters, but just stick to keeping cats out of trees instead of falling for a phone scam.

The department posted to Facebook on Tuesday a warning that fraudsters are calling around and asking for money.

Those running the con say they are trying to raise money for the Firefighter Support Funds group, which isn’t attached to any agency in Georgia.

Cobb firefighters said the scam has already been reported to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office.

“If you receive calls from this organization, please don’t give them any information,” the department wrote.

A quick Google search shows a recent story from The Spokesman-Review indicating that apparently officials in the area of Spokane, Washington, are also dealing with this scam.
