The Cobb County Commission voted Tuesday to delay a decision on a proposed $300 million mixed project that would be developed along 81 acres of the Chattahoochee River.
The project would be funded and developed by Green Street Properties, Marthasville Development and Jamestown Properties and include a mix of residential and commercial elements on both sides of River View Road near I-285.
Owners of heavy industrial businesses in the area warned that the development would be too close to their businesses, would be built in an area prone to flooding and would clog already crowded roads in the area.
The project had been approved by the county’s planning board, the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority, which approved the project with recommendations for improvements in the area.
“Who is going to do these improvements?” said Commissioner Bob Ott, noting the six pages of GRTA recommendations in the agency’s report that he and Commissioner Helen Goreham wanted resolved before a final vote. “We can’t obligate the county to come in and make the improvements for a private development.”
The project comes back for discussion and a possible vote at the commission’s next zoning hearing on March 15.
