A 53-year-old Cobb County man driving the wrong way on a highway died Friday night in Kansas.

James Richard Glover, of Marietta, apparently was traveling northbound in a southbound lane of I-135 near Wichita, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The wreck happened on an exit ramp as a van was trying to get on the interstate.

Glover's 2003 PT Cruiser hit another vehicle head-on, injuring the family of three inside the Chrysler van. The two adults and a four-year-old child were not seriously injured, Trooper Darren Moser told the AJC.

"They tried to avoid striking him, but he swerved," Moser said.

The wreck happened around 9 p.m., according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Glover did not have his headlights on, Moser said. The PT Cruiser ignited after the collision, he said.

Glover was combative with troopers, who placed him in handcuffs, Moser said. Glover stopped breathing at one point, and troopers administered CPR until an ambulance creek to Glover to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

One trooper reportedly smelled alcohol on Glover, Moser said.

A cause of death has not yet been determined, Moser said.
