A Cobb County police lieutenant arrested last week for allegedly using fraudulent prescriptions to obtain painkillers has resigned.

Charles Alan Forrester, 42, turned himself in at the county jail on Friday afternoon for fraudulently obtaining 90 oxycodone/acetaminophen tablets on April 6 at a Kennesaw Rite Aid, according to an arrest warrant filed in Cobb Magistrate Court. Ten days later, Forrester allegedly purchased 30 hydromorphone tablets at the same pharmacy, the warrant states.

Facing an internal investigation, Forrester, released on a $10,000 bond, turned in his badge Tuesday afternoon, Cobb police spokesman Dana Pierce said. He had been placed on paid administrative leave after his arrest.
