A 21-year-old contractor who was shot and killed this week by a homeowner at an east Cobb County home had been through his share of tragedy before his life was taken.

Jake Allen Horne died Thursday after he was allegedly shot in the head by 68-year-old Larry Joel Epstein, who has been charged with murder, Cobb police said.

According to a GoFundMe account set up to collect money to pay for Horne's burial, the Marietta resident "was a kind, smart, caring, loving person."

“In the last few years he had dark moments like losing both his parents, but he also lived his life to the fullest,” said page organizer Lisa Godsey. “He was always happy and smiling, and cracking jokes. He's leaving behind his baby sister, but he'll be with his family and parents who have passed on as well.”
