An assistant football coach at Banneker High School was being held Friday in the Fulton County jail after allegedly pointing a BB gun at a student.

Kevin Pope, 36, was arrested by Fulton County school police Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Pope, a former teaching assistant, is accused of pointing the gun at a sophomore football player in an effort to encourage the student to make better grades. Pope has been fired from his job.

He was booked into the Fulton County jail, where he was being held Friday morning on $1,000 bond.
