Club Inferno burns

A vacant downtown building that once housed a bar named Club Inferno was heavily damaged by a two-alarm fire early Wednesday.

Firefighters enter a one-story building in the 300 block of Marietta Street, which once housed Club Inferno, just before 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire crews were able to contain the flames to the original building, which backs up to the Georgia Aquarium's property.

Atlanta firefighters use flashlights during interior inspections to make certain the fire is out.

Fire crews had the fire under control within minutes.

Sgt. Tony Witchousky (left) talks with fire investigator, Lt. T. Hicks, following the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The property's manager reports the building was undergoing some remodeling.

Firefighters roll up hoses following the fire. Atlanta fire Battalion Chief Paul Cuprowski says, "These buildings are hard to contain once they get going because there are so many additions and add-ons over the years and there are so many void spaces in there, and that's what makes them so difficult."
