The Clayton County schools are expected to spend $235,000 cleaning up a mold infestation in a Forest Park charter school, Channel 2 Action News reports.
The mold has forced some students out of classrooms at the Unidos Dual Language Charter School, 4475 Hendrix Drive, and parents are happy to hear the problem is being dealt with however much it will cost. The $235,000 was the lowest bid received by the school district.
“Health is the main issue, you know,” parent McArthur Evans told Channel 2.
Crews working on a renovation and sound-proofing project found mold growing in the ceilings about six weeks ago. Officials walled off sections of the building, including five classrooms, and moved 100 students into portable trailers for the next few months.
Environmental tests found the air in the rest of the school to be safe.
The cleanup could begin as soon as the Clayton School Board approves an emergency contract, possibly at its meeting Monday night. The work is expected to be finished by Jan. 1.
