No injuries were reported in a Monday morning fire that destroyed a home in Clayton County.

The blaze broke out around 7 a.m. in the 4900 block of Bouldercrest Road, near the Clayton-DeKalb County line.

Clayton fire Battalion Chief Jacque Feilke told the AJC that arriving firefighters "encountered a lot of flame, a lot of smoke."

Those crews attempted an interior attack on the fire, "but they had to back out because it was so intense," Feilke said.

"There are no cars in the driveway, so we don't think the residents were home, but we haven't been able to contact them," Feilke said.

She said the cause of the fire had not been determined.

Feilke said that the roof of the home caved in, and the house is a "total loss."

Jerold Snow, who lives next door to the home that burned, said he was awakened around 5:30 a.m. to a “smoldering-type smell.”

Snow said he checked his house to see if anything was burning, found nothing, and went back to bed.

“Shortly after, some young man was running through the neighborhood, knocking on doors, waking everyone up,” Snow said. “That’s when I came out and noticed the fire itself.”

Snow said he was relieved when firefighters opened the door to his neighbor’s empty garage.

“I knew that if his car was not in his garage, then chances are he was not at home,” he said.
