Disaster was somehow averted at a Gwinnett County intersection Friday afternoon, when a pregnant woman drove her car head-on into a loaded school bus.

None of the children on the bus was seriously injured, and neither was the woman, police said. Her pregnancy was unaffected, as well, said Cpl. Jake Smith, of the Gwinnett County Police Department.

"At this time, there are no complications with her unborn child," Smith said.

Six of the kids on the bus were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The rest were either collected by their parents at the scene or ferried home on another bus.

The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Peachtree Corners Circle at Holcomb Bridge Road in unincorporated Norcross.

It's unclear why the woman, whose name was not released, drove into oncoming traffic. She was cited for failure to maintain her lane, and drugs and alcohol were out ruled as factors, Smith said.
