The Cherokee County School District announced the return of its USDA Seamless Summer Option to offer free meals to children and teens ages 18 and under, and the introduction of a new delivery bus to reach more youngsters.

The program starts Wednesday, June 5, and runs Monday through Friday to July 19 (no meal service July 1-5). All meals must be eaten where they’re served.

From June 5 to 25, breakfast and lunch will be offered at the following schools: Etowah East, Cherokee High, Woodstock High, Teasley Middle, Hasty Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary and R.M. Moore Elementary.

From June 5 to July 19, lunch will be served at: Canton YMCA, Canton Mill Village, Lancaster Ridge/Canton Housing, Woodstock YMCA, Hidden Falls, East Gate and Kell High; and breakfast also will be served at Woodstock YMCA and Kell High.

To serve more students at more locations, the district repurposed a decommissioned school bus to be a delivery vehicle. For serving times, menus and other information: 770-721-8419 or https://bit.ly/2HJaIrG

“Almost one-third of CCSD students qualify for free or reduced-price meals during the school year, and this program ensures that children continue to have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer break,” the district said in a program announcement.

Seamless Summer is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture; no district funds are used for the program, officials said. The district works with community partners like MUST Ministries to reach as many children as possible.
