Nearly one-third of Cherokee County school students qualify for free or reduced-price meals during the school year. So, the Cherokee County School District this summer again will offer a USDA program of free meals to students ages 18 and younger to ensure they continue to have nutritious food during the summer break.

Meals will be offered Monday through Friday — June 5 to July 21 (with certain exceptions) at 12 locations: Allen Temple AME Church, Woodstock; Canton Elementary School STEM Academy; Cherokee High School, Canton; East Gate Mobile Home Park, Acworth; Etowah High School, Woodstock; The Factory, Woodstock; Hidden Falls Mobile Home Park, Acworth; Oak Grove Elementary School Fine Arts Academy, Acworth; Teasley Middle School, Canton; Woodstock High School; G. Cecil Pruett Community Center Family YMCA, Canton; and Cherokee Outdoor Family YMCA, Woodstock.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
