Cherokee County has renewed an intergovernmental agreement to provide fire and emergency services to Ball Ground, and will now also handle fire inspections for the city.

Cherokee Fire & Emergency Services will work to respond within eight minutes to all emergency fire, hazardous materials and lifesaving-related alarms in Ball Ground, and provide fire prevention, pre-fire inspection, hydrant flow and other services, according to the agreement.

The county also will work with the city to maintain and/or improve its ISO fire safety rating, and provide quarterly reports of equipment deployments; call volume, type and location; and emergency calls inside Ball Ground and the county from stations serving the city.

Fire inspection services will include reviewing site and building plans; inspecting buildings and facilities; and investigating arson and other fire incidents.

The agreement runs for five years, with an automatic renewal for an additional five years. The Ball Ground City Council approved the agreement Aug. 16, county staff said.
