Chemical release may have prompted evacuation

Possible chemical release in building

Two floors of the Marquis One Tower at Peachtree Center Avenue and Harris Street in downtown Atlanta were evacuated Thursday because of what appears to be a chemical release.

Five people were evaluated at the scene and one was transported to a hospital.

The call came in after 11 a.m. Thursday that employees smelled an unusual odor on the eigth floor at 245 Peachtree Center Avenue

A haz-mat team was called in to investigate.

By 12:15 p.m., employees were seen returning to the building, according to witnesses.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the chemical smell.
