Celebrate Christmas early with Mall of Georgia’s tree lighting

The Mall of Georgia is ringing in the holiday season, starting with their annual Christmas tree.

The mall will hold its annual tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 17 in the Village, its outdoor event space. The Village is also home to the mall’s ice skating rink.

The tree-lighting ceremony will begin at 3 p.m., with holiday-themed music, a live DJ and a performance from local cover band The Throwback Experience. Santa and Papa Elf will also make a “special appearance”.

After nightfall, there will be a showing of “The Santa Clause” as part of a special installment of the mall’s “Movies Under the Stars” event series.

Food and beverages will be available from nearby restaurants, and adults can get alcoholic beverages from those restaurants and bring them into the Village.

Some areas appeared to approve new Sunday alcohol rules. Voters seemed to pass referenda allowing Sunday alcohol sales earlier in the day. The change appears approved in Cobb, DeKalb, Forsyth and Gwinnett. Several cities appear to have passed it, including Acworth, Atlanta, Austell, Kennesaw, Marietta, Peachtree Corners and Powder Springs. Senate Bill 17, passed this year, allows local governments to put referenda about this topic on the ballot.
