Carol Zaban Cooper, a prominent leader in city's Jewish community for more than three decades, will receive the Lion of Judah 2010 Kipnis-Wilson/ Friedland Award this fall in New Orleans.
She is the Atlanta honoree. Others are selected from other cities. The award is based on philanthropy and volunteerism.
Cooper, who will receive the award at the International Lion of Judah Conference, is the former president of what is now known as Jewish Family & Career Services. During her time at the organization, formerly known as Jewish Family Services, Cooper was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her family established a support group to help others affected by the disease.
Cooper also served as the former chairwoman of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta's Women's Philanthropy Division, although she's still involved in the division's efforts. The Jewish Federation is one of the community's major fundraising organizations,
