Carl Patton, president of Georgia State University, celebrates the completion of the school's newly constructed Helen M. Aderhold Learning Center building on Luckie Street near Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta in 2002. Patton, an urban planner who raised the profile of the institution over 16 years and helped revitalize downtown Atlanta, will retire this summer.
