More than 100 friends, family members and supporters of a Gwinnett County woman found dead six days ago gathered Friday night in the same spot where she was found.
A candlelight vigil to honor Nique Leili took place in the Oak Village subdivision in Lawrenceville.
Leili's mother, Harriett Garrett, set a cross at a memorial for her daughter and wept with other mourners. The slain woman's father, Doug Chatham, also attended.
Leili, 44, was found Saturday morning under a pile of leaves in the neighborhood where she lived with her husband of 13 years, Matt Leili, and the couple's two daughters.
Matt Leili, who reported his wife missing July 11, is the only suspect Gwinnett County police have named in the woman's death. No charges have been filed in Nique Leili's death, nor have investigators said how she died.
A memorial service for the woman, who also has a 19-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Athens, said Leili's sister, Amy Elk.
"Tonight I return to the scene of the worst horror of my life in order to carry the torch to lead the charge for justice," Elk posted on Twitter prior to Friday night's vigil.
Next Tuesday, a Gwinnett County Probate Judge will determine whether Matt Leili or Nique Leili's adult daughter will be allowed to take possession of the woman's remains.
