Atlanta police Friday were investigating the overnight robbery of a cab driver in southwest Atlanta.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the Rapid Taxi driver picked up a male and female passenger in Buckhead, and when they reached Amal Drive in southwest Atlanta, the man told the cabbie to pull over.

The male passenger pulled a gun, and the pair stole the driver's wallet, $540 in cash and the keys to the minivan cab, according to Channel 2.

The station reported that the gunman fired a shot, but the cabbie was not injured.

That incident was the third robbery or attempted robbery of a cab driver in Atlanta in less than a week.

Early Sunday, a taxi driver was at a traffic light a Hosea L. Williams Drive when he noticed a white Chevrolet sedan "tight on his bumper," according to an Atlanta police incident report.

When the light turned green, the car pulled in front of the taxi and cut the driver off, the report said. A passenger in the Chevy got out with a rifle, possibly an AK-47, and ran up to the taxi driver's window and pointed at the cabbie.

"He then punched the window out with the tip of the barrel and told [the taxi driver] to give him all his money or he would kill him," the report stated.

The taxi driver, who was not injured, gave the gunman his money, and the suspect got back into the Chevrolet and fled.

Three days later, a driver for Yellow Cab was attacked in a similar manner. That driver was sitting at the red light on Freedom Parkway at North Avenue when a white Dodge Charger pulled in front of his vehicle, blocking his lane.

The passenger got out of the Charger, "pointed what seemed like an AK-47 or assault rifle into his window and stared yelling, ‘give me all your money,' " according to a police report.

When the taxi driver reached for his own gun, the suspect got back into the Charger and fled without taking anything.

Police on Friday released a composite sketch of a suspect wanted in connection with the two earlier incidents.
