The driver of a disabled car was killed Sunday morning when a bus struck the car on I-75 northbound in Henry County, police said.
Javarius A. Exum, 25, of Milledgeville, stopped in the right lane of the highway just before exit 216, police spokesman Capt. Mike Ireland said.
A passing motorist called police about 4:18 a.m. and said the car was stopped without flashers, only brake lights. Three minutes later, a 911 call came in about an accident with injuries, Ireland said.
The bus, which was from Tennessee, crashed into Exum’s 2009 Dodge Charger, Ireland said.
The bus then pushed the Dodge to the left, crossing all northbound lanes and stopping in the left-hand emergency lane.
The driver of the bus said as the vehicles were coming to a stop that he noticed flames on his left side. He yelled at everyone in the bus to get out.
Both vehicles were set afire.
Only the driver sustained minor injuries; all bus passengers were able to evacuate.
When Henry County fire officials extinguished the blaze, they found Exum’s body.
Police said Tuesday that no charges will be filed because the disabled car was in a travel lane when the bus hit it.
