A suspicious package that prompted the evacuation of several DeKalb County businesses and condominiums Monday morning was determined to contain trash, police said.
Dekalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the department’s Bomb Unit was sent to a shopping center in the 300 block of Peachtree Road in Brookhaven after “someone spotted a suspicious package around 8:30 a.m. near a dumpster.”
Stephen Leclair, who works at There Brookhaven, a restaurant and bar in the Town Brookhaven complex and lives above the restaurant, said he was told that the package, which was found just outside his restaurant’s side door, was a bag with the words “crock pot” on it.
Parish said businesses and condos in the vacinity were evacuated as a precaution.
Shortly after 10:30 a.m., Parish said the scene was clearing. “It was not a valid device,” she said. “It is trash.”
