A deadly collision between a dump truck and a garbage truck closed Atlanta Highway in Forsyth County for about three hours Monday, officials said.

Two people in the garbage truck died in the crash that happened just before 3 p.m. at an intersection near Fowler Park, Forsyth County sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Doug Rainwater told Channel 2 Action News.

A man driving the dump truck was taken by helicopter to a nearby trauma center in critical condition, the news station reported.

One vehicle was on Castleberry Road and the other was on Atlanta Highway when they crashed head-on, Rainwater said.

An investigation is ongoing.
