A man’s arms were crushed and partially severed Thursday in a work-related injury at a construction site on Roxboro Road in Buckhead, Atlanta Fire officials said.
“He was working in a 3- to 4-foot deep hole and he was injured in the process of whatever they were doing in the hole,” spokesman Sgt. Cortez Stafford told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “He did not fall into the hole.”
Channel 2 Action News reported a pipe was responsible for the injuries.
Stafford confirmed the man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was rescued about 3 p.m. and taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Battalion Chief Douglas Hatcher told Channel 2 this type of accident is complicated and unusual because there isn’t much room to maneuver in such a tight space.
“We got one of our special rescue team members (to help with the rescue),” Hatcher said. “He got into the hole with him, was able to put a harness around his body so that we could lift him out safely and put him on a backboard and onto a stretcher.”
OSHA is investigating Global Venture Capital LLC, Channel 2 reported.
