DeKalb County police say they're searching for a 16-year-old boy accused of shooting a 19-year-old man in front of a Wal-Mart.

The boy is one of two teens charged in the Sunday afternoon incident that caused panic on Fairington Road outside Lithonia, police said Monday.

A 16-year-old girl has been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. The teens’ identities haven’t been released.

People apparently panicked because someone spoke up on the store’s intercom saying there was a shooter in the store, according to a police report.

Channel 2 Action News said customers screamed and ran for the exits. Others holed up in departments for safety until it turned out the shooting had been in the parking lot.

Officers arrived around 3:30 p.m. and found a pool of blood in front of the Wal-Mart and a blood trail leading around the back, the police report said.

The victim, who is expected to survive, was already being loaded in an ambulance.

It isn’t clear exactly why the shooting took place. Police have only said there was a verbal dispute beforehand.
