A 19-year-old man is expected to survive after being shot outside a DeKalb County Wal-Mart on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Maj. Stephen Fore said DeKalb County police responded to the Wal-Mart at 5401 Fairington Road in Lithonia around 3:30 p.m., finding the man shot in the back in the parking lot.

The victim told police he was shot “following a verbal altercation” with another man, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s. The suspect fled in a black older model Honda, Fore said, and the victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

No other details were immediately available Sunday.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the store remained open.
