Authorities have identified the swimmer who presumably drowned in Lake Acworth on Sunday afternoon as a Marietta man.

Rescuers pulled the body of Thomas King from the lake near South Shore Park on Ragsdale Road around 1:40 p.m. Sunday after receiving calls from witnesses who said a 55-year-old man using a paddle board had gone under water.

Capt. Mark Cheatham of the Acworth Police Department said on Monday that King had rented a paddle board and accessories from a local sporting goods store.

The man was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident, Cheatham said.

Cobb County Fire Department rescuers recovered the body about 30 minutes after the man was seen going under, police said.

Cobb police, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Army Corp of Engineers all responded to the scene. The Cobb Medical Examiner's Office took charge of the body and will render a cause of death, police said.
