The northbound lanes of Moreland Avenue near I-285 were shut down Friday morning as DeKalb County police investigated a body found in the roadway.

The body was discovered about 3:45 a.m. between Cedar Grove Road and I-285. All lanes were reopened by 8:30 a.m.

The incident was first reported by the state Department of Transportation as a pedestrian struck by a car, but DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the male victim was apparently already lying in the roadway when he was struck by at least one vehicle.

"At this point, we're looking to see how that person died," she said. "We do know he suffered some additional injuries prior to the accident, and at this point the detectives are trying to determine if it was the accident or those other injuries that caused his death."
