Decatur’s school board met with two members of the Georgia School Board Association’s search service Tuesday night, the first step in finding a replacement for Superintendent Phyllis Edwards.

Chairman Garrett Goebel said the board still hasn’t made a final decision selecting a search firm, adding that it could take at least 45 days. The actual search process could take four months, or longer, and will likely begin with a series of community-input meetings.

Applications won’t be accepted until the search firm is in place.

There remains no timetable for Edwards’ leaving. She reiterated Tuesday she will stay at least through the end of the school year, and possibly through December, depending on the board’s recommendation. After nearly 12 years on the job Edwards, 64, announced her sudden resignation on March 10.
