Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Andre Smith was arrested Thursday after officials found a .38-caliber handgun in his carry-on bag, according to a Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport spokesman.

The gun was loaded, authorities said, and Smith, 25, was arrested and transported to Clayton County Jail late Thursday afternoon.

The former first-round draft pick out of the University of Alabama was released Friday morning after posting a $3,000 bond.

Smith’s agent, Ben Dogra, told the Cincinnati Enquirer his client has hired an Atlanta-based attorney. The Birmingham native was unaware there was a handgun in his luggage, the paper reported.
