A beautiful fall weekend is in store for metro Atlanta, but breezy conditions have prompted a wind advisory for Friday afternoon across the northeast Georgia mountains.
The wind advisory, in effect from 1 to 6 p.m., was posted for areas above 1,500 feet, where winds gusting to 30 mph are expected.
As for metro Atlanta, fall weekends don’t get much better.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is predicting sunny skies through Sunday, with highs in the mid-70s Friday and Saturday, warming to the low 80s on Sunday.
Fans attending Friday night high school football games will need a jacket as temperatures begin dropping. Overnight lows will be in the 50s, Minton said.
Atlanta’s calendar of sporting events is a little on the light side this weekend, highlighted by the Falcons-Panthers game at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Georgia Dome.
On Saturday, the Dome will be hosting the Atlanta Public Schools “Domecoming” football games, a series of four games throughout the day pitting city school teams against one another.
Next door to the Dome, Disney on Ice takes over Philips Arena for seven weekend shows.
Other events this weekend include the annual AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run, which begins at 1 p.m. Sunday at Piedmont Park.
As usual, weekend repaving projects could cause backups on several metro interstates.
In DeKalb County, the two right lanes of I-285 westbound near Peachtree Industrial Boulevard will be closed from 3 p.m. Saturday through 3 p.m. Sunday, according to Doug Turnbull in the AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB Traffic Center.
Other DeKalb roadwork will shut down the ramp from I-285 southbound to I-20 eastbound from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday and the ramp from I-20 eastbound to I-285 northbound from 11 a.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
In Fulton County, a single lane of the ramp from the Downtown Connector southbound to I-85 southbound will be blocked from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, while the right lane of I-85 northbound will be blocked between Metropolitan Parkway and the Connector during the same hours.
