Football season is still in full swing, but with the Falcons, Bulldogs, Jackets and Panthers all playing on the road this weekend, basketball will take top billing in Atlanta.
Georgia Tech’s men’s basketball team opens its season – and the new McCamish Pavilion – Friday night with a 7:30 tip-off against Tulane.
At the same time a few miles away at Philips Arena, the Hawks take on the Miami Heat.
While there’s no college football games in town on Saturday, that doesn’t mean there won’t be some added football traffic on one Georgia interstate, as Bulldog fans head south on I-85 for Saturday night’s game against the Auburn Tigers.
On Saturday, the Atlanta Veterans Day Parade steps off at 11:11 a.m. on Peachtree Street south of Ivan Allen Boulevard, and continues south to Baker Street, then down Baker Street to Centennial Olympic Park.
Basketball, football and parade fans driving through Atlanta this weekend will want to be aware of a few interstate construction projects that could cause delays.
As in recent weeks, the biggest backups are likely to be on the top-end Perimeter, where a couple of lanes in each direction will be blocked between Glenridge Drive and Peachtree Dunwoody Road, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday.
A couple of westbound lanes will be also be blocked during those hours near Powers Ferry Road, and the ramp from Ga. 400 northbound to I-285 westbound will be closed from 6 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday.
All that road work is subject to change depending on the weather, but with a forecast of sunny skies through Sunday, don’t expect any rain reprieves.
Highs this weekend will be in the low 70s, with lows in the 40s.
