Basketball courts open at Piedmont Park

April 22, 2011

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and NBA Hall of Famer Julius “Dr. J.” Erving  dedicated two new basketball courts at Piedmont Park donated by Converse, one of the first corporate sponsors to give money to Reed’s Centers of Hope initiative.

“By participating in sports and engaging in regular physical fitness activities, our young people get much-needed exercise and develop important social skills, such as teamwork and cooperation,” Reed said, after showing his form on the free throw line.

The courts, located adjacent to the tennis courts, are believed to be Piedmont Park's first.
