Atlanta firefighters were called to a hotel near Underground Atlanta Friday morning to help determine the source of water that had flooded the sub-basement of the hotel.

The incident happened about 9 a.m. at the Fairfield Inn & Suites on Peachtree Street south of Five Points.

Hotel manager Evens Charles estimated that four to five feet of water was in the sub-basement of the hotel.

“We just had a pipe leak that caused the fire alarm to go off,” Charles told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The water has been turned off and it’s under control.”

Charles said just before 10:30 a.m. that “we have plumbers and water restoration people coming to make the repairs and we’ll have the water back up and going in a few hours.”

The hotel has not been evacuated, and there were no visible signs of the water outside the hotel.
