Avondale Estates’ 90-year-old Willis Park, two or three weeks from re-opening, is on the agenda for a commissioner’s work session, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Avondale Estates City Hall, 21 North Avondale Plaza.
A $640,000 renovation began on the three-acre space in September and was delayed for long stretches due to rain. That weather, however, probably hasn’t dampened sentiments from nearby residents.
The Museum School, founded in 2008, moved across the street from Willis Park several years ago and almost immediately sparks surfaced. The issue came to a head during a January 2014 commission meeting when some residents complained that Museum School students were using the public park while their own park went unused.
Mayor Jonathan Elmore isn’t sure how Wednesday’s discussion will take shape, though it may include a resident request for some type of park policy, possibly including restricting times of use and use by non-residents.
