Aviation Boulevard at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport will be renamed "Maynard H. Jackson Jr. Boulevard," after Atlanta's three-term mayor. The roadway will lead to the main entrance of the new international terminal, which is also named for Jackson and is scheduled to open next spring. The road will create a new entrance to the airport, providing access from I-75 in Clayton County.
"The transformation of Hartsfield-Jackson into the world's busiest passenger airport is a hallmark of Mayor Jackson's bold vision, leadership and courage," said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.
Atlanta's City Council passed a resolution in 2003 to request that Aviation Boulevard be renamed after Jackson. Louis Miller, the airport's general manager, made the formal request during Tuesday's meeting of the Clayton Board of Commissioners.
