Austell police have arrested four people with stealing guns from a pawn shop as the state was being hit with heavy rains and floods, Austell Police Chief Bob Starrett said Wednesday.
Officers arrested Heriberto Bothi, 20; Anthony Scudder, 20; Dymarcritus McClarty, 19; and Ridge Shivers, 17. They are in the Cobb County Jail, charged with theft by receiving stolen property.
Police may not be finished catching all of the thieves, Starrett said. Officers arrested the four people on Tuesday and also were able to recover some of the guns, Starrett said. But investigators think there were more than three robbers and are also on the hunt for additional guns that were taken, he said.
The Austell Golden Pawn Shop was looted and several guns were stolen during the heavy rains a few weeks ago. Starrett said police received a tip on where the thieves were based upon a television news report.
"We've been working on the case for the last couple of weeks," he said Wednesday.
The floods hit Austell hard. The blue-collar town of about 7,000 suffered from damage to about 700 houses and 50 businesses. It will rely heavily on FEMA for recovery.
