Austell to consider recycling rate increase

September 12, 2012 DECATUR Loaders move recyclables around the processing area at the Dekalb County Central Transfer Station Wednesday, September 12, 2012. DeKalb County is poised to lift the fee for residents to recycle materials, a move it hopes will encourage more people to set aside their glass, paper and other items and also free up more space in the county-owned landfill. By forgoing $30 for the bin and bags, the county then hopes to save money in the long-run. Will look at costs in other counties. KENT D. JOHNSON / KDJOHNSON@AJC.COM

The Austell City Council will consider a monthly increase for recycling services at a meeting 7 p.m. Monday in the Council Chambers, Austell City Hall, 2716 Broad St. SW.

This proposed increase would be 5 cents a month from $3.09 to $3.14, Randy Bowens, director of the city’s Public Works Department, told the AJC.

However, the $9.15 monthly charge for sanitation, also by Republic, will remain unchanged for the weekly pickups, he added.
