Family members say the body of a missing man was found Thursday by his aunt as she worked with a city crew near an Atlanta park.

While Atlanta police have not identified the man found, family members say he is Arkenius Cobb, 22. His corpse was found among bushes on Collier Drive near Harwell Heights Park west of downtown.

Homicide Commander Paul Guerrucci said the body, which had “a certain degree of decomposition,” was discovered around 10 a.m. by a landscaping detail. It was about 10 feet off the roadway, Guerrucci said.

Guerrucci said an autopsy will be performed to verify the identity and the cause of death, but he said authorities have prepared family for the worse.

Fulton County Jail records show Cobb had been arrested several times since 2007 on a variety of charges, including receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Very emotional family members were already on the scene Thursday and told Channel 2 Action News an aunt who was working with the city crew discovered her nephew’s body.

Cobb was last seen at the recent funeral of his grandmother, relatives said.

"We tried to warn the police, tried to warn everybody,” a cousin, Star Young, told Channel 2. “What if we could have helped him?"
