Showers and thunderstorms will bring a soaking to metro Atlanta late Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Rain will be spotty and light today; models show scattered slight rain northwest of Atlanta after lunch around 1 to 2 p.m., kind of hit and miss through the afternoon," said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton.

A few showers had moved into the northwest corner of the state by 11:30 a.m., with a wider band of showers over northern Alabama.

Moderate to heavy showers  should move into metro Atlanta later tonight;  most of the rain will end around 5 a.m. Wednesday, she said. The chance of rain is about 50 percent.

Another round of showers will move into metro Atlanta by noon and last through Wednesday afternoon and early evening,  ending around 8 p.m., Minton said. Chance of rain Wednesday is 80 percent. Rainfall totals will be 1 to 2 inches, Minton said.

Temperatures will remain warm Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the low to mid-70s.

Thursday will see much cooler weather with lows in the upper 30s and low 40s, and highs in the low 60s. Friday's temperatures will drop to near freezing before sunrise.
